Bail for Drink Driving Singapore

Booking2

Bail for Drink Driving in Singapore.  Basically, whether or not you can be bailed or not really depends on the situation and everyone’s case is different from one another. The amount that you can be bailed for is usually based on the type of charges that you face.  Currently the standard traffic offence charges and fine is as follow:

For the alcohol level, each contains a range of sentences, based on the level of alcohol in excess of the legal limit of 35 microgrammes (ug) per 100 millilitres of breath:

Between 35 – 54 ug: $1,000 to $2,000 in fines, and a driving ban of 12 to 18 months

Between 55 – 69 ug: $2,000 to $3,000 in fines, and a driving ban for 18 to 24 months

Between 70 – 89 ug: $3,000 to $4,000 in fines, and a driving ban for 24 to 36 months

At least 90 ug: $4,000 to $5,000 in fines, and a driving ban for 36 to 48 months or longer

Basically your bail amount will be the same as the charged sentence.  This is to ensure that you have enough guarantee to pay off your fines.  For more serious cases which involves injury and death, some times there is no bail allowed.  This depends also on how negligent the offender is and whether the offender rendered help and assistance to the victim.  This is very crucial.

GOING OVERSEAS DURING BAIL

When you are on bail, you are still allowed to go overseas, but you will need to bring along your guarantor, at the court before your next trip.  You can only ask for overseas trip at the court itself.  There are NO OTHER ways to go overseas without having the bailor together with you to ask for permission in the court.  IF you never apply for the permission in the court from the judge.  THEN YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE SINGAPORE.  This is very crucial because if you attempt to leave Singapore without any permission, you will be liable to another charge.  And EVEN if you managed to leave Singapore, when you return, you will be faced with the charge.  Do check carefully before you leave the country, what are the things to look out for.  You may check with your IO ( Investigating officer) or call up the Traffic Police.  Make sure that you always have the bailor or guarantor around in Singapore when you are in court.  The best is if the person goes to the court with you for any hearings just for safesake.

The main thing is : DO NOT undermine the power of the court.  Be very serious with the court and always check carefully.
