Singaporean Probationary Driver caused death of passenger

The then 20 year old probationary driver, Muhammad Nizam Abdul Karim was sentenced to 13 month jail term for having caused his passenger’s death two years ago.  The passenger Ms Norfatin Diana Norazlan hit her head when Nizam drove and made a sharp turn before she could close the sliding door.  She laid on the ground and was unresponsive. Nizam further told his friend not to call the ambulance as he was afraid to lose his licence.  Nizam pleaded guity for the 4 charges under him: Dangerous driving, negligence not amounting to culpable homicide, drug possession and drug consumption.

Besides the jail term, he will also be barred from driving for 5 years after his release.  The failure for calling an ambulance was what caused the judge to pass the sentence to Nizam.

From this case, we can see that the court cannot tolerate selfish acts and also not respecting the chance of survival of the lives of others.

When in an accident that involves an injury of a third party, it is very important to tend to the injured and ensure that life is saved.
