Many of us when charged in court, do not even know what are charges about. I am sure when we start to drive there are so many things about driving which we do not know and never touched on. This also include the parts of the car, how the car works etc etc. I will be covering all these information for us the motorist so that you will be well informed and be more careful about what is expected of you as a motorist.
Whether you are riding or driving, do note that you are operating a machinery that has the potential to KILL. What you do on the roads can affect the lives of other road users in a good or bad way. How much do you know about the Road Traffic Act in Singapore?
The road traffic act Singapore is an Act for the regulation of road traffic and the use of vehicles and the user of roads and the operation of bus interchanges and for other purposes connected therewith. You can in fact access the Road Traffic Act ( Chapter 276) The sections within it are as follow, a short description about the Parts are included below each write up :
Part I REGISTRATION AND LICENSING OF VEHICLES
-This portion governs the registration licensing of vehicles. This includes the modification to the engine and capacity of the vehicles.
Part IA ROAD-USER CHARGES
-This portion covers on the charges that a road user face when they start to use the roads. These are like the taxes and levies for the road.
Part II LICENSING OF DRIVERS
-This section governs the licencing of drivers, how the usage of licence for drivers should be handled. What are the punishment meted for mis handling of the drivers’ licence. Rules and regulations the different classes of driving licence.
Part III LICENSING OF DRIVING INSTRUCTORS AND DRIVING SCHOOLS
-As the section title suggest it mentions about the limitations and laws which the driving instructors and driving schools should be acting and what are their limitations.
Part IV GENERAL PROVISIONS RELATING TO ROAD TRAFFIC
-This is where most of the road traffic offence charges are based on. In fact the rules and regulation all motorists should follow like usage of mobile phones and adhering to the traffic rules are meted out here.

This portion deals with all the uses of the raods in Singapore, how long a vehicle can be parked on the roads. Traffic signs, special roads etc.
Part VII MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS
This portion mets out the types of offences and charges to be faced with the offence. Some of the provisions under there includes service of summons and offences.
